Assistant Professor Beth Hinderliter received her PhD from Columbia University in 2008. Before arriving at Buffalo State College, she taught at the University of North Carolina Charlotte, Parsons, and Columbia University.

Her interdisciplinary research interests focus on the relationships between visual culture, social practice, and cultural politics and are informed by post-colonial theory and issues of race and gender. She has taught classes on contemporary visual culture, African art, art of the Soviet Union as well as surveys of North American and European art.

Dr. Hinderliter is co-editor of a volume of essays Communities of Sense: Rethinking Aesthetics and Politics (Duke, 2009). She has essays forthcoming in the journals October, Journal of Postcolonial Writing, and African and Black Diaspora: An International Journal. She received a research award for the Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan and has held fellowships from the SUNY Research Foundation and the German Academic Exchange Service.
